I have some questions about the Project Management Professional (PMP)® application process. Where can I find detailed information about what I need to do?
PMI publishes, and regularly updates, a PMP handbook that describes in detail everything you need to do to conduct your PMP application process. The basic eligibility requirements are as follows:
- 35 contact hours of formal education.
- 4500 hours of project management experience over the past eight years, with a bachelor’s degree, or 7500 hours of project management experience with a high school diploma, or equivalent.
Once the eligibility requirements have been met, you will need to pass a 4-hour multiple-choice exam at a Prometric testing center.
You document your experience and training via PMI’s online application process.
There are many ways to satisfy the 35 contact hour training requirement, but people often elect to take a PMP prep course.
