Why take a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification course?

pmp course

With over a million Project Management Professionals worldwide, the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) certification program is now a standard across all industries. Becoming a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) involves meeting certain education and experience requirements, and passing a 180-question exam. (PMP Certification Handbook from PMI.)

The key to passing the exam is to understand PMI’s view of project management.  This means reviewing and understanding both PMI’s Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and Agile Practice Guide, but also becoming familiar with how PMI expects project managers to apply that knowledge.  In most cases, this requires PMP-candidates to become familiar with new concepts during their PMP exam preparation, and/or to “unlearn” practices that they have picked up over the years.

How long are the PMP exam prep courses?

Our PMP prep courses are 40 hours long.  We offer 5-day boot-camps, as well as 1-day-a-week, and evening schedules, in-person and online.

Why is the Key Consulting PMP prep course longer than most others?

While we focus solely on preparation for the certification exam, we believe the best way to prepare is to understand the information you need to pass the exam – not just to try and memorize everything. Gaining an understanding takes a little longer, but also improves learning and retention.

Aren’t all PMP prep courses basically the same?

No.  Many courses teach terms and concepts in something of a vacuum. Key Consulting’s PMP prep courses provide additional exclusive content to better illustrate the concepts, using templates, real-life examples, and practical exercises, to create a more complete understanding of the required materials. This increases the likelihood you will both pass the exam, and be able to apply the concepts outside the classroom.

Do you offer a guarantee for the PMP exam preparation courses?

Based on our past history, going back to the very first PMBOK® Guide,  we are very confident that our training prepares you very well for the PMP and CAPM exams.  However, you may re-take the training as many times as you like, for 12 months after your original paid course, on a space-available basis, using your existing materials/texts, at no cost – assuming the version of the PMBOK® Guide or Exam Content Outline used for the exam does not change during that time-frame. If you are still within your 12 month window, but the PMBOK® Guide or Exam Content Outline has changed, you are eligible to take the updated training and receive new materials/texts etc. at a 50% discount, on a space-available basis.

Does Key Consulting offer group discounts?

No.  Because our courses are already priced very affordably, we do not offer group discounts.  However, if you have 5 or more people interested in PMP training, perhaps we could come to you and reduce your travel costs.  Please call us for more details.

How many students does Key Consulting have on each PMP course?

Typically we have 3 to 5 people per exam prep course.

Does the course fee include the PMP certification exam fee?

No.  Exam and application fees are paid directly to the Project Management Institute (PMI), and currently run around $500.  More details are available at the PMI website. You will then take your exam at a Pearson Vue testing center, or online.

When is the PMP exam available?

The exact dates/times available for you to schedule your exam will vary slightly depending on your local testing center, but in principle the exam is available during normal business hours 6 days a week. You can also take the exam online almost any time.

Can I pay Key Consulting by credit card?

Yes. You can pay via credit card online or over the phone. You can pay with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

Can Key Consulting send my company an invoice for the training?

Yes.  But the invoice must be paid in full before you attend the training.

What is Key Consulting’s cancellation policy?

Please review our cancellation policy and other registration-related policies on our registration FAQ page.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMP Exam?

You can take PMP training at any time, but before you take the 180-question Project Management Professional (PMP) exam, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • 35 contact hours of formal education.
  • 36 months of project management experience over the past eight years, with a bachelor’s degree, or 60 months of project management experience with a high school diploma, or equivalent.

How do I document my experience for the PMP Exam?

You document your experience and training via PMI’s online application process.  This will require to you write a short paragraph for each project, describing your role and responsibilities on the project.

My job title is not Project Manager. Can I still qualify to take the PMP exam?

Your job title is not important.   What’s important is what activities/processes you have been responsible for on your projects.
