I want to prepare to take the Project Management Certification and I want to pass on the first try. Anyone know of any good certification prep courses to take. I know there are a lot out there and some are very expensive but was just curious to know of anyone who may have taken the exam and passed. Would you be willing to share your experience and recommendations on passing?
You’ll need to decide if you can sit for the PMP exam or the CAPM exam. If you don’t have any current PM experience, you’ll be looking at the CAPM certification/exam. In either case there are online courses and in-person courses. Online courses can be less expensive, but I’d be looking for a format that allows you to ask detailed questions of the instructor – some of the topics can be quite complex. Whether online or in-person, some courses are designed to come at the end of your preparation – shortly before you take your exam. Others, like Key Consulting’s, are designed for the start of your preparation process.
Although the boot-camp format (4 or 5 consecutive days) is popular, extending your training over multiple weeks is probably a better learning approach for most people. Also try to find out about your instructor, and which text books you get as part of the course.
